Dutch “King’s Song” (aka “Koningslied”) Throws the W in the Air.

Picture 1

The “King’s Song,” which was written for an inauguration of the new king on The Netherlands(aka Holland) Crown Prince Willem-Alexander, has not been very well received by the Dutch.

The song, written by British-born songwriter John Ewbank, was planned to be performed at a concert in the Ahoy in Rotterdam in the evening of April 30 and broadcast to the new king live by video link ahead of the boat parade.  It had a petition calling for the song to be stopped (Click here to see the petition) signed by 40,000+ people.

John Ewbank got hammered on twitter (@johnewbanknl) and finally he admitted defeat, stating he was withdrawing the song from the ceremony.
He tweeted “After having to block yet another insult on my Twitter account, I am now totally done”

Here is the song on YouTube… jump to 1:56 and check the rap in the middle.

Some of the lyrics include ‘I build a dyke with my bare hands and keep the water away’ and ‘through wind and rain I’ll stand beside you… I’ll keep you safe as long as I live’.

The W flashing starts at 3:03, but it’s is not for ‘Westsiiiiide’ its for ‘Willem’

Photo Crazes: Dragon Ball Z(Makankosappo) and Vadering…Marketing Stunts?

Dragon Ball Z Photos(also referred to as “Makankosappo,” or “Hadokening.”) has been all the newest craze in Japan…at least for the past month or so.

Started by Japanese school girls, these photos mimick the blasts, hi dokens, and energy balls seen in the Dragon Ball Z cartoons and comic books. Could this be a marketing stunt? A new Dragon Ball Z movie released in Japan at the end of March, and perhaps a few marketing geniuses helped get this started to kick off the buzz. What do you think?

Which leads us to the western version, Vadering!

While very similar in the photo taking process, these photos raise the coolness up a notch by reenacting the scene from Star Wars were Vader uses his dark side powers to “vader choke” a man in the air. Lord knows that Star Wars needs little help when it comes to creating buzz so this was probably not started by anyone associated with the franchise. Could it be for another brand?

The Chic Fil A cup in one of the first noted “vadering” photos has the conspiracy theorists talking. Interesting. I could buy that story if it was a Burger King cup, but not Chic Fil A.

If I had to choose one photo craze over the other I would have to go with Vadering…I think the baby pic above helped that. Regardless both of these photo crazes beat out the “planking” fad.
